3 New Track Records Provide Exclamation Point to Unbelievable Season Elkhart Lake, WI – The last race of the 2011 season for the Great Lakes and Midwest Regions of the National Auto Sport Association would mark the return to Road America for the first time in two years. The Myers Motorsports crew would set up shop in the upper paddock in preparation for a busy weekend competing in their usual PTE and TTE classes, as well as in the E3 class in the weekend ending three-hour enduro. The extra preparations that the team made for this high speed, high horsepower track were very evident from just a quick glance at the National Championship winning #786 Honda Civic Si, sporting a new front airdam and undertray, both in an attempt to make the car go through the air better, thus placing more of an emphasis on straight-line speed as opposed to the usual emphasis on handling. The team would start the event running their “all-square” setup of 205-width Hoosiers on all for corners, feeling that the lower rolling resistance of the 205′s up front would be quicker than the normal 225 front and 205 rear setup. After a handful of on-track sessions, the team mounted up the 225 fronts to see how much of a difference the tire width actually was, and quickly found out that the added front grip was more important as driver Brian Makse would pick up almost 1.5 seconds. As Saturday’s on-track activities came to a close, the team would walk away with wins and track records in both PTE (2:47.1) and TTE (2:47.3).
