MM Driver Sam Myers Charges Hard in #33 ITA CRX
Lexington, OH – After spending the previous 3 days crewing for Freedom Autosport in the Grand Am CTSCC Street Tuner class, Sam Myers hopped into the driver’s seat of his #33 ITA Honda CRX Si at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course. The morning qualifying session would prove to be a soggy one, and Myers would struggle to get a grip on the rain line at Mid-Ohio, spinning on lap 4 and settling for a 25th place qualifying effort in the 55 car field. Myers’ luck in the 10-lap Qualifying race wouldn’t prove to be any better, as he would pull into the pit lane at the completion of lap 1 after the car had died and he was unable to refire. After a flat tow back to the paddock a quick diagosis found that a wire going from the kill switch to the distributor had pulled out of it’s connector, and follwing a quick 30 second wiring fix, the car was ready to go for the 19-lap feature race.
Sunny skies welcomed the drivers as they took the green flag for the afternoon’s race, and quickly Myers would set sail for the front after starting shotgun on the 55 car field. Passing several cars per lap and making the most of the sticker Hoosier tires he’d mounted up for the race, Sam was able to set the 3rd fastest lap of the race en route to a 10th place overall finish, good enough to earn him P4 honors in ITA.
